6. Epic Fail (The Deathstar)
The first rotomolded cast of Spik-E was
a double skin of silicone and resin in a
mold made from found objects. Because
the outer form is Pet-G, the silicone
layer is essential as a heat buffer for
the curing resin. Below are two interior
photographs; the left showing the
cavity after the silicone cast and the
right showing the resin layer that was
injected into the silicone volume and
rotomolded again. The failure was two-
fold from the ad hocness of the mold
and the weight limits on Roll-E.

7. Pet-G Mold
After milling the triangular base
mold for the vacuformer, the faces
of the isocahedron fit together nice-
ly along the seam with a series of
clips. A pipe clamp holds the glove
onto a spike for testing.
